The Shelby County Conservation District (SCCD), established on January 7, 1949, includes within it boundaries all of the land in Shelby County, a total of 245,760 acres.  There are 3,000 conservation districts in the nation and 121 in Kentucky.

The District is a subsidiary of State Government, is governed by a board of seven supervisors elected by petition or election from all areas of the county. The members are  committed to inform, encourage, and motivate landowners and users to conserve and protect our soil, water, and other natural resources for future generations. The board meets the first Wednesday of each month to develop programs and discuss activities and events that effect all citizens of the county.

The District is located on Howard Drive in Shelbyville, Ky. within the USDA Service Center.  The SCCD has an agreement with USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to work as a partnership providing technical assistance and information to the citizens of Shelby County. Federal, State, and Local programs are offered to landowners for cost share assistance, as well as conservation educational information to schools, churches, and the public.
